From Visibility to Demand: Building a Marketing Engine for a Relationship-Driven Manufacturer

Manufacturer of American-made curb boxes, valve boxes, and meter access products for the water and natural gas utility markets.

    Intro

Our client, a U.S. infrastructure manufacturer has produced American-made utility access products for generations (or for centuries). Its cast iron and innovative plastic products protect and provide reliable access to critical underground water and natural gas infrastructure across the country.

During the engagement, the company experienced significant sales growth despite a market it characterized as relatively flat.

In a relationship-driven industry, digital marketing had an important role to play alongside the company’s established sales channels. Here’s how a more connected, measurable approach helped expand reach, capture demand and support growth.

    The Challenge

The manufacturer sells through distributors and independent sales representative groups serving water and natural gas utilities, municipalities, contractors and other infrastructure customers. It is a highly relationship-driven business, with sales representatives building and maintaining relationships through distributor branch visits, trade shows and direct customer interaction. Those relationships remain central to the sales process, but a relatively small field team can only be in so many places at once.

At the same time, digital research had become an increasingly important part of the buying process. Customers were searching online for products, technical information, American-made solutions and requirements such as Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliance—often before connecting directly with a salesperson or distributor. Strategic marketing offered an opportunity to extend the reach of the existing sales model: increasing awareness and visibility, engaging customers during their research, and creating additional opportunities for the sales network to build relationships.

The company already had an established marketing program and a clear strategy for expanding its digital presence. Internally, however, marketing was lean: one full-time marketing professional with limited part-time support from a colleague whose primary responsibilities were in customer service and operations. Together, they supported a broad range of activities—from trade shows, product literature and distributor support to social media, website content, digital marketing and HubSpot.

The company was also working with an outside marketing agency, but as the program evolved, its needs had become more sophisticated. The next stage called for an agency partner that could work collaboratively with the internal marketing team while bringing deeper expertise in HubSpot, SEO, digital marketing and performance measurement.

HubSpot was already an important part of the company's marketing infrastructure, but there was significant opportunity to use it more strategically. Website forms captured inbound interest, but limited product context, attribution and routing made it difficult to see the full path from digital engagement to sales follow-up. Improving that visibility—and connecting search, content, paid media and lead management more effectively—would make both the marketing program and the existing sales network more effective.

The opportunity was not to create a marketing strategy from scratch, but to build on an existing foundation: combining the internal team's industry knowledge, customer insight and strategic direction with New Perspective's digital, SEO and HubSpot expertise to expand reach, capture and nurture demand, and create a more connected and measurable program.

"New Perspective came in at an important stage in the evolution of our marketing program. We had a strong foundation and a clear vision for where we wanted to go, but we needed a partner with the digital, SEO and HubSpot expertise to help us accelerate that strategy. The relationship has been highly collaborative, combining our knowledge of the industry, customers and business with their specialized capabilities. Together, we’ve expanded our digital reach, strengthened search performance, made more strategic use of HubSpot, and built a more connected and measurable marketing program. Just as importantly, we now have better data to understand how customers are engaging with us, make informed decisions and continually refine where we focus our efforts."

    The Approach

Beginning in June 2025, the internal marketing team and New Perspective worked together to build on the company’s existing strategy and create a more connected digital marketing program, one designed to expand the company’s reach, engage and nurture customers throughout the buying process, and better support its relationship-driven sales network.

The approach combined the manufacturer’s knowledge of its markets, customers and sales channels with New Perspective’s expertise in SEO, AEO, paid media, HubSpot and performance measurement.

Strengthening search visibility through SEO and AEO

Since April 2026, New Perspective has executed a high-impact SEO and AEO strategy across water and gas product lines, driving a 33% increase in monthly search impressions (from ~51,000 to ~69,000 in Q2) and a 23% boost in organic clicks. By June 2026, visibility hit a record 81,957 impressions (+98% YoY), while a strategic pivot to Answer Engine Optimization successfully secured direct citations within AI Overviews, ensuring the brand remains visible as search behavior shifts from clicks to AI-driven answers.

    Content driving demand generation

Content strategy focused on the questions and issues customers were actively researching, including lead service line replacement, American Iron and Steel (AIS) requirements and Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliance. Blogs and resources were developed collaboratively, pairing the internal team’s industry and product expertise with New Perspective’s search and digital content capabilities. Average engagement time of approximately 5.5 minutes on these resources provided a strong signal that visitors were finding value in the more in-depth technical and educational content.

Paid search where the field team is thinnest

Geo-targeted Google Ads campaigns launched in December 2025, initially focusing on curb and valve box products in Texas and Florida. Performance data was reviewed alongside market knowledge and sales priorities to guide expansion into additional states, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Arizona. Campaign-specific landing pages and state-level forecasts supported a more deliberate approach to testing and expanding paid search.

Making HubSpot strategic part of the marketing program

New Perspective’s HubSpot expertise helped the team strengthen conversion tracking, lifecycle management, lead routing and ongoing engagement.

Website inquiries—including catalog downloads and quote requests—could be captured with better context and routed more efficiently to the appropriate sales contacts based on territory, while HubSpot provided a stronger foundation for continued communication and lead nurturing.

These improvements gave the marketing team greater visibility into inbound engagement while creating a more consistent connection between digital activity and sales follow-up.

Connecting marketing activity with business data

Monthly reporting brought together organic search visibility, paid media performance, website engagement and lead activity to provide a more complete view of marketing performance. The team also began analyzing order data alongside campaign activity and timelines, creating an additional layer of insight into where marketing engagement and business activity may be moving together—without assuming direct attribution where the data does not establish it.

What a HubSpot Setup for B2B Should Actually Look Like

How can an U.S. manufacturer turn growing digital demand into meaningful customer engagement and stronger sales opportunities?

    The Results

Twelve months into the engagement, the program was showing meaningful gains across both marketing performance and broader business activity:

    • Sales growth accelerated during the first six months of the engagement and remained strong through the first half of 2026, despite a market the company characterized as relatively flat.
    • Organic search visibility reached record levels, with impressions up 98% year over year by June 2026 and organic clicks continuing to increase.
    • Website engagement strengthened as more customers found and interacted with product, compliance and educational content through organic search.
    • Paid search established an additional source of targeted traffic and inquiries in priority markets, with performance data helping guide continued geographic expansion and optimization.
    • Improved forms and HubSpot workflows created a more effective way to capture, understand and route inbound interest to the appropriate sales contacts.
    • Order value and unit volume also increased during the period, providing additional business-level indicators to evaluate alongside the growth in digital visibility and engagement.

    expansion driven by performance data

We’ll say this plainly: no manufacturer’s revenue growth traces to a single cause, and we don’t claim this one does. What the data does show is sustained business growth alongside accelerating digital demand, stronger search visibility and increased engagement in the markets and product lines the program targeted.

Just as importantly, the company now has better visibility into how customers are finding and engaging with the business—and a stronger foundation for understanding marketing’s contribution to growth over time.

    What This Means for Manufacturers

In relationship-driven manufacturing, “boots on the ground” still matter. Sales representatives build relationships through distributor branch visits, trade shows and direct interaction with customers, and those connections remain an important part of the sales process. But a field sales team can only be in so many places at once.

Strategic marketing extends that reach. By increasing awareness and visibility, providing useful information when customers are actively researching, capturing interest and continuing to engage and nurture prospects, marketing can support relationship-building well before—and between—personal interactions with sales.

That was the opportunity for this manufacturer. The internal marketing program was built around a strong understanding of the industry, customers and changing market environment. New Perspective brought complementary expertise in SEO, digital marketing, HubSpot and measurement, along with the team and resources to help execute and expand that strategy.

The result was not a fundamentally new approach to marketing. It was a more disciplined, connected and measurable application of proven marketing principles—combining deep market knowledge with specialized digital expertise to increase visibility, strengthen engagement and better support an established relationship-driven sales model.
